Children's Groups

Children's Ministry Roles

These roles require you to go through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), which we will facilitate for you to complete.

Cowplain Creche (0-4 Years)

There are 2 roles within Creche that you can do.

A leader: this person will organise the crafts and Bible stories, prepare drinks and get the toys out. During the service they will lead the morning, deciding when to have drinks and when to do the Bible reading etc. Please note that this role is only for Church members. 

A helper: this person will assist the leader in putting the toys out and be the extra pair of hands necessary for a morning in Creche.

You will only be put on the rota once every few weeks, and we work around you- do not worry if you can only do 1 Sunday for 6 weeks!

Cowplain Bumps & Babes (Expectant Mums & Babies)

There is 1 role within Bumps & Babes that you can do.

A helper: this person will assist the leader in putting the toys out and be the extra pair of hands necessary for a morning at Bumps & Babes.

You are welcome to be present every Thursday morning, however this is not necessary. Being there every week means you can develop a great relationship with the mothers and babies, so we do recommend being there as often as possible.

Cowplain Toddlers (0-4 Years)

There are a few roles within Toddlers that you can do.

A helper: this person will assist and be the extra pair of hands necessary for a morning at Toddlers. They can play with the Toddlers, hold a baby while Mum has her tea, chat with the parents and tidy up where necessary.

Kitchen Helper: Kitchen helpers will prepare squash for the children and tea & coffee for the adults, and serve the drinks at snacktime.

You are welcome to be present every Thursday morning, however this is not always necessary. Being there every week means you can develop a great relationship with the mothers and toddlers, so we do recommend being there as often as possible. 

Put out the toys: This can be done any time after Tuesday Coffee Shop (once a month on a Wednesday due to Prayer Meeting/Members meeting). What is required is to put the toys out by following a picture and it should only take you 20-30 minutes a week.

Sunday Club (Year R-Year 6)

There are 2 roles within Sunday Club that you can do.

A helper: this person will assist and be the extra pair of hands necessary for a Sunday morning. We ask that you are there from 9:30am on a Sunday morning when it is your duty day to do the cutting out that is usually needed! During the morning you will help the younger group (4-7 years) when they are doing their crafts, and just join in to help where you can. You may be put on the rota once every 6 weeks.

A teacher: Teachers are slotted in for 3 weeks at a time so there isn’t too much change for the children each week. There are resources that are provided for you to use, and the theme is decided weeks in advance. All you need are the skills to be creative, fun and loving towards our lovely children. Please note that this role is only for Church members. 

This is a role that we are in much need of as we are regularly getting 20+ children a week, so if you feel this is something you want to do but are not sure about it- please ask the questions you have! The children are all lovely, and it’s a true privilege to disciple these children.

Cowplain Kids (Year R-Year 6)

There is 1 role within Cowplain Kids that you can do.

A helper: This role can involve lots of things, depending what you are comfortable with. You can lead a game, make the drinks, play the games as someone else leads or even be the designated dancer for the songs…! Just be a general friendly person a child can have fun with. If you are a church member, this role can also include leading the short Bible talk.

We ask that you are at Cowplain Kids as often as you can, every Friday would be best, so you can develop relationships with these children and they can get to know a friendly face!

Relish (Year 7+)

There is 1 role within Relish that you can do.

A leader: If your heart is to disciple young people, this is the role for you. Roughly 1 Sunday a month you will be asked to lead a session with a handful of youngsters. This includes games and Bible study. Please be aware that this role is for Church members only.

Worship Team On A Sunday

From working behind the PA desk to leading worship on a Sunday, you can find a role that suits you.

Worship & Visuals Team

These roles extend from managing the visuals on the screen to playing the keyboard. Limited or extensive skills are welcome!

Playing An Instrument

We have an excellent worship team, full of a variety of instruments, and we would love to hear what you can bring to the team.

As of now, we currently have instruments for the following:

  • Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Bass Guitar
  • Drums
  • Keyboard

If you can play other instruments that are not on the list, we welcome your skills!

The worship team are on the rota every 4-6 weeks, and are also encouraged to come to a Thursday evening music practice when on the rota for the following Sunday.

Vocals

If you’re interested in becoming one of our singers, whether you play an instrument or not, then please speak to Phil Atherton (Ministry Elder) to register your interest. Otherwise, email the church office during the week.

The worship team are on the rota every 4-6 weeks, and are also encouraged to come to a Thursday evening music practice when on the rota for the following Sunday.

PA Sound Operator

This is the job to manage and lead the sound on a Sunday morning. This is a heavily required role, and comes with full extensive training. If you’ve never done anything with a PA desk before, that’s not a problem at all. You will be fully trained, and walked through a few Sundays and music practices.

SongPro

This person will control the visuals (like words to the songs, sermon slides) on the screen at the front of the church, TVs around the hall and on the live stream. You will be given full training on how to use the system and how to volunteer within this role.

Refreshments Team
Make and serve coffees and teas for hundreds throughout the weeks

Sunday Services, Events & Coffee Shop

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team of volunteers who provide refreshments for our church events and special services

10am Sunday Discovery Service

Fellowship and refreshments after the Sunday service cannot go a miss, we are so grateful to those who make and serve tea and coffee! This job is greatly appreciated, would you like to join?

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and setting up refreshments before and after church services
  • Cleaning up and organising the refreshment area after each service
  • Serving the tea and coffee after the service finishes

5pm Sunday Discipleship Service

Fellowship and refreshments before the Sunday service cannot go a miss, we are so grateful to those who make and serve tea and coffee (and cake)! This job is greatly appreciated, would you like to join?

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and setting up refreshments before and after church services
  • Cleaning up and organising the refreshment area after each service
  • Serving the tea and coffee at 4:30pm before the service

Tuesday Coffee Shop

There are two roles for our Tuesday Coffee Shop.

A server/barista: This role is for someone to work in the kitchen to make the teas, lattes and cappuccinos. If you don’t have experience on a coffee machine, that’s not a problem, we will train you. If you otherwise want to stick with the teas- that’s also welcome!

A waiter: This ministry role requires you to take orders and return with their coffee and tea to their table! A lovely job talking to people and putting a smile on their face.

Church Upkeep Jobs

Our main hall is transformed in many different ways during the week, we appreciate those who help stack chairs, clean and put out toys. These jobs do not go unnoticed, and are very necessary.

Putting Out Chairs

Join the Set-Up Team and help create a warm and welcoming environment for your church community!

We are looking for reliable and motivated individuals to join our team of volunteers who help set up for worship services and events at the church.

One Saturday every couple months to put out the chairs for a Sunday.

Cleaning The Church

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our cleaning team. As a member of the team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of our church.

The responsibilities of the cleaning team include dusting, hoovering, mopping, and sanitising surfaces. The team meets once a week for a couple hours to complete these tasks, and are so appreciated!

Putting Out Toddlers Toys

Our Toddler group meets on a Thursday morning and enjoy playing with the hundreds of toys that we put out. We would appreciate some extra help to accompany those who put the toys out.

From a Tuesday afternoon/evening onwards, every week during term time.

We are looking for talented and motivated individuals to join our team of photographers who document the events and services of the church. As a member of the Photography Team, you will have the opportunity to use your skills and creativity to preserve memories and tell the story of your church community.

Social Media Posts

We are looking for talented and motivated individuals to join our team of social media volunteers who create and manage content for the church’s social media platforms. As a member of the Social Media Team, you will have the opportunity to use your skills and creativity to connect with your church community and share the story of your church with a wider audience.

Posts are regularly posted on our various social media accounts and pages, and it would be great to hear your ideas on how we can keep a good online presence.
